  1. Vim is public domain. If you are happy with Vim and want to express that,
  2. don't send me money. I don't need it. But I know a place where they do need
  3. your money. Please read on.

  5. Summer 1993 I spent one month in Uganda with a Dutch team. What I experienced
  6. there was very impressive. Together with local people we built a nursery
  7. school in Kibale. In only three weeks from nothing to a roofed building!
  8.  
  9. Kibale is a small town in the south of Uganda. It is an area that is suffering
  10. from AIDS very badly. About 30% of the adults are infected. Because parents
  11. die, there are many orphans. They need a lot of help. The Kibale children
  12. centre is working hard to provide the needy with food, medical care and
  13. education. Food and medical care to keep them healthy now, and education so
  14. that they can take care of themselves in the future. This is the best charity
  15. program I have ever encountered.

  17. The key to solving the problems in this area is education. This has been
  18. neglected in the past years with president Idi Amin and the following civil
  19. wars. The people have to learn how to take care of themselves and how to avoid
  20. infections. There is also help for people who are ill, but the primary goal
  21. is to prevent people from getting ill.

  23. I was impressed by the progress that is being made there. The work is very
  24. well organized. Every dollar is spent on something useful. Our team brought
  25. about $2000. For that money we were able to built most of a two classroom
  26. nursery school. They have further plans to build a primary school and houses
  27. for the teachers. They also need money for books and other teaching materials.

  31. How do you know that the money will be spent right? First of all you have my
  32. personal guarantee as the author of Vim. Further the project is co-sponsored
  33. and inspected by World Vision and International Child Care Fund. I will visit
  34. the project a second time in January 1994. Friends of mine will go there in
  35. the summer of 1994. So I keep informed about what is happening there.
